Tennessee defensive line target Darrion Smith announced his imminent commitment date on Sunday night. The three-star recruit is announcing his college commitment on Tuesday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m. ET according to his X.

Smith has not announced a top group at any point but his visit history says that his recruitment is down to Ohio State and Tennessee. The 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive lineman has taken three visits to Tennessee and one visit to Ohio State in 2024 after he took a visit to Columbus for a game last fall.

Smith ranks as a three-star recruit and the No. 650 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Baltimore native also ranks as the No. 18 player in the state of Maryland and the No. 69 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The three-star recruit plays his prep football at St. Frances Academy which is one of the top high school programs on the east coast. Current Tennessee defensive end Dominic Bailey played his prep football at St. Frances.

While Smith is not a blue-chip recruit, he is one of the fastest rising prospects in the entire 2025 recruiting cycle. Tennessee was the very first school to offer him back in December 2022 and since then Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, Penn State, Miami, USC, Ole Miss and many other have offered the prep defensive lineman.

Tennessee football’s 2025 recruiting class currently contains 20 commitments including from a trio of defensive lineman— four-star Mariyon Dye, four-star Ethan Utley and three-star Charles House.

The Vols are also red-hot on the recruiting trail at the moment after landing a pair of four-star recruits over the weekend and having landed four blue-chip recruits in the last two and a half weeks. The commitments over the weekend boasted Tennessee’s recruiting class to No. 5 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
