Tennessee left-handed pitcher Zander Sechrist signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday afternoon after going unselected in the 2024 MLB Draft, Sechrist told RTI.
In the Twins organization, Sechrist joins his former Tennessee teammate Jorel Ortega who started for the Vols at second base during the 2022 season.
Sechrist is one of the most beloved Tennessee baseball players in program history. After spending much of his first three seasons in Knoxville as a midweek starter, Sechrist emerged as Tennessee’s Sunday starter in his senior season.
The left-handed pitcher’s production was up-and-down for most of the season before ending his career on a brilliant six start stretch. In those final six starts, Sechrist allowed just five earned runs in 34.2 innings pitched (1.30 ERA) while posting a 1.01 WHIP.
