Tennessee baseball’s strong MLB Draft continued on Monday when professional teams selected four more Volunteer players. Through the first 10 rounds of the draft, Tennessee boasts eight draft picks which is the most of any college team in the country.
After Christian Moore, Blake Burke, Billy Amick and Dylan Dreiling went in the first two rounds of the draft, key Vols Drew Beam, Kavares Tears, AJ Causey and Aaron Combs went on the second day of the draft.
Almost as exciting as MLB teams selecting Tennessee’s current players in the draft is that only two of seven potential Volunteer prep signees were selected on the second day of the draft. While only one signee— right-handed pitcher Tegan Kuhns— has officially announced that he is intends to make it to campus, the Vols’ signing class looks poised to survive the draft.
In the MLB Draft, every draft slot in the first 10 rounds has a “slot value” assigned to it. Those slot values represent what the MLB views is the approximate signing bonus value for a player selected in that slot. That doesn’t mean that MLB teams have to sign players to that exact deal, but it is a strong indication of the ballpark that players will sign in.
