Tennessee baseball’s 2024 signing class is its best in Tony Vitello’s seven seasons as head coach, ranking as a consensus top three class nationally.
With an elite signing class comes major risk of losing signees to the MLB Draft. No Tennessee signees were projected to be selected in the first two round and none of them were selected on the first night of the MLB Draft. But with the second day of the draft set to begin at 2 p.m. ET on Monday, it could be a busy day for Vol baseball signees in the draft.
Seven Tennessee baseball signees ranked between 128 and 186 in ESPN’s list of the top 250 draft prospects entering the draft. By that projection, starting in the fourth round there could be a run on Vol signees.
Most high school draft prospects communicate with MLB teams before the draft and let them know the signing bonus that it would require for them to forego their college eligibility and begin their professional career. That means that teams won’t draft some prospects because there is little chance of signing them. It also makes it likely, though not a guarantee, that those drafted near their projects will sign professionally and not make it to campus.
Over the course of the next two days, this story will be updated with details about which Tennessee signees have been drafted, who they landed with and what their projected slot value is. Follow along here.
