World Champion Texas Rangers Select Tennessee Baseball’s Dylan Dreiling In MLB Draft

The Texas Rangers selected Tennessee outfielder Dylan Dreiling with the 26th pick in the second round (No. 65 overall) of the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday night.

Dreiling is a draft eligible sophomore who just spent two seasons in college. After being one of Tennessee’s best bench bats as a freshman in 2023, Dreiling was one of the breakout stars of the Vols’ 2024 National Championship team.

The left-handed outfielder hit .341 with 23 home runs, 44 extra-base hits and 75 RBIs over the course of the season. Tennessee’s everyday starter in left field, Dreiling flashed dominant power while also being a solid contact hitter and leading the team in walks. His 23 home runs are tied for the third most in a single season in program history.

Dreiling was a clutch performer from his early days on campus on. His game-tying pinch hit home run with two-outs in the ninth inning against Vanderbilt in 2023 helped flip Tennessee’s season and kickstarted the run that sent Tennessee back to the College World Series.

The Hays, Kansas native was clutch throughout his fantastic sophomore season, leading Tennessee in runs batted in. Dreiling was dominant in the College World Series on his way to winning tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Dreiling delivered numerous memorable moments including when his walk off single in Tennessee’s CWS opener against Florida State completed a four-run ninth inning comeback.

Later in the tournament, Dreiling became the first ever player to hit a home run in all three games of the College World Series finals. All three home runs came in the seventh inning with his game two home run giving Tennessee a 2-1 lead and his game three home run giving the Vols some important breathing room as they secured their first ever National Championship.

Dreiling is the fourth Tennessee baseball player off the board in the 2024 MLB Draft joining second baseman Christian Moore, first baseman Blake Burke and third baseman Billy Amick
