Josh Heupel added another tool to his offensive belt on Saturday with the addition of a highly-touted receiver from the 2025 class.
Tennessee received a commitment from four-star receiver Travis Smith Jr. for their 17th commitment to the 2025 class, as he announced at his high school on the 11Alive YouTube channel.
The 6-foot-3.5, 199-pound wideout from Westlake High School in Atlanta, GA, is a dynamic athlete with his length and athleticism and has been a menace to defensive backs on the high school scene.
Smith lands as a four-star receiver across all four major recruiting networks and comes in as the No. 113 player overall, the No. 16 receiver in the class, and the No. 14 player from the state of Georgia according to 247’s Composite Rankings.
“Crafty route runner at all three levels who can sink his hips with ease or use subtle head and body movements to cause defenders to guess incorrectly,” 247 recruiting analyst Hudson Standish penned in a February write-up on Smith. “At this stage of the evaluation process, Smith profiles as one of the higher-floor wideouts in the country and one of the better pass-catchers from the Deep South. Has a chance to contribute immediately at the Power Four level, but must continue to work on separating earlier in his routes to realize long-term NFL Draft upside.”

As a dual-sport athlete also playing basketball, Smith knows how to use his length and size in close proximity. Smith’s tape from the 2023 season shows a balance to his game, too. Smith shows a knack for hand-eye coordination with the ball in the air, hauling in contested catches near the sidelines, and snagging the long ball. Smith routinely keeps defenses on the heels with his ability to burst down the field or make a cut near the first down line.
Smith gives Tennessee their third and highest-ranked receiver in the 2025 class according to 247’s metrics. Tennessee also has commitments from four-star WR Radarious Jackson and three-star WR Joakim Dodson.
