Tennessee football released its new smokey grey uniforms on Saturday morning marking the third different grey uniform the Vols have worn in the last three seasons.
The new smokey grey uniforms are an ode to the ‘Volunteer State’ with a number of small details that represent the entire state of Tennessee. Most notably, there’s a tri-star logo on both the shoulders and the back of the helmets. But there’s also three individual stars on the orange stripe down the side of the pants and an outline of the state of Tennessee on the pants.
It’s also the first ever Tennessee football jersey that’s had the Tennessee script across the chest. The Tennessee script is also on the back of the uniforms where a player name would typically be. Other changes to this alternate uniform is a white outlined of the numbers. It also includes a light grey line on the helmet and down the side of the pants that represents the small white line between the red and the navy blue on the Vols’ state flag.
Here’s to you, old Tennessee.

It’s the third iteration of the smokey grey uniforms in the last three years. When Tennessee brought the smokey grey uniforms back in 2022 they announced a plan to wear four different smokey grey uniforms over the next four seasons.
It is currently unclear which game Tennessee will wear its smokey grey uniforms for though they have mostly used orange jerseys for its biggest home games under Josh Heupel. Tennessee football is 2-0 in its smokey grey uniforms over the last two seasons, beating LSU 40-13 in Baton Rouge in 2022 and beating Austin Peay 30-13 in Knoxville last season.
The Vols are also 3-1 in its “dark mode” uniforms under Heupel with wins over South Carolina in 2021 and 2023 and a win over Kentucky in 2022. The lone loss came against Georgia in 2021.

Hate the grey uniforms and the black uniforms. Awful- Tennessee’s school colors are Orange and White, not black and grey. Be proud of our colors. The black and the grey look gimmicky, besides being ugly.
The home uniform of an Orange jersey, White helmet with Orange stripe, and White pants is beautiful and the best looking uniform in the country.
