Latest NHL 2024-2025 Stanley Cup futures odds: Will Panthers repeat? Stars, Oilers top-3 favorites

The Stanley Cup is just beginning its 2024 summer tour as the newly-crowned Florida Panthers revel in the franchise’s first championship.

But, naturally, the rest of the NHL world has shifted their sights to next season, and the 2025 Stanley Cup futures odds already are posted and attracting early action.

Following is a quick look at the top five favorites to hoist the Cup next June and their corresponding consensus odds at your local online sportsbooks.

2025 Stanley Cup odds favorites: Florida Panthers to win (+900 at BetMGM)

Only two NHL teams — the 2020 and ’21 Tampa Bay Lightning and the 2016 and ’17 Pittsburgh Penguins — have captured the Cup in back-to-back seasons over the last 25 years.

And now coach Paul Maurice’s Panthers are the odds-on favorites to join the club as Florida begins its quest for a third straight Stanley Cup Final appearance after losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.

However, there are some immediate pressing business matters to be dealt with this offseason with no fewer than 13 pending free agents on the Panthers’ roster, including leading scorer Sam Reinhart and defenseman Brandon Montour.

2025 Stanley Cup odds favorites: Dallas Stars to win (+1000 at FanDuel)

The Stars were ousted by the runner-up Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final — their third appearance in the NHL’s final four in the last five seasons.

But a return trip will be anything but easy for the defending Central Division champs, who will have to deal with the Oilers and the 2022 (Colorado Avalanche) and 2023 (Golden Knights) Stanley Cup champs just to make it out of the Western Conference.

Dallas also has a key free agent to re-sign this summer in veteran center/right winger Matt Duchene.

2025 Stanley Cup odds favorites: Edmonton Oilers to win (+1000 at FanDuel)

Conn Smythe-winner Connor McDavid and the Western Conference champs extended Florida to a full seven games and are a popular choice to repeat the Panthers’ 2024 feat in going from Stanley Cup Final runner-ups to champs the following season.

The day following Florida’s series-clinching win BetMGM Sportsbook reported that Edmonton had accounted for a site-high 30.6 percent of the 2025 Stanley Cup handle while trailing only the Panthers (21.5%) with a 20.1 percent share of the total ’25 tickets.

2025 Stanley Cup odds favorites: Colorado Avalanche to win (+1000 at Caesars)

2024 Hart Trophy favorite Nathan MacKinnon and the Avs failed to make it past the conference semifinals in each of the past two seasons since winning the Cup in 2022.

Still, the talented squad remains among the perennial title favorites.

Getting past the likes of the Oilers, Stars and Golden Knights in the West, though, will be tricky.

2025 Stanley Cup odds favorites: Carolina Hurricanes to win (+1200 at DraftKings)

Another perennial power, Carolina has made it to the postseason in each of the last six seasons but hasn’t made it back to the Stanley Cup Final since winning the franchise’s lone title in 2006.

The ’Canes boasted one of the league’s most talented rosters in 2024, but like the Panthers, Carolina has a number of key free agent decisions to make this offseason.

In fact, no fewer than three Hurricanes — winger Jake Guentzel, defenseman Brett Pesce and winger Teuvo Teravainen — appear on Sportsnet’s list of the top 12 pending NHL free agents.
