Billy Amick’s huge grand slam over the left field fence in the third inning of Tennessee’s Knoxville Regional game on Saturday sends the Vols one step closer to an all-time college baseball record.

With the bases loaded and Tennessee up 5-0 on Indiana in the top of the third inning, the Volunteers’ third baseman cranked back and unloaded a shot into the porch section behind the left field fence. The grand slam went 348 feet as Dean Curley, Cal Stark, and Christian Moore came around to score.

Amick’s shot also followed up a bases-loaded RBI walk from Christian Moore as the Vols tallied five total runs in the inning.

This was Amick’s second grand slam of the year, previously hitting one against Ole Miss on March 24.

As per the regional tournament format, Tennessee was at the plate in the top of the inning as the visiting team despite the game being played in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Amick’s grand slam was Tennessee’s 12th of the year, which is an ongoing SEC record.

The grand slam breaks Tennessee out of an NCAA tie for third place all-time, moving the Vols into a second-place tie with Oklahoma State’s 1996 squad with 12 total in the season.

Tennessee needs two more grand slams to tie the all-time college baseball record at 14 with Arizona State’s 2003 team and three more to claim the record. Oklahoma State set their record in 66 games while Arizona State set theirs in 68 games. Saturday’s game against Indiana will count as Tennessee’s 63rd game this season so far.

LSU’s 1998 team previously held the SEC record with 10 grand slams, which Tennessee broke during the Vols’ 8-3 Friday win over South Carolina in the final regular season series of the year. Tennessee first baseman and slugger Blake Burke had a towering grand slam in the seventh inning to give Tennessee’s 2024 squad the SEC record.
