Tennessee did not actively recruit the younger brother of its starting quarterback after landing its top quarterback target on its 2025 recruiting board— George MacIntyre. A Brentwood, Tennessee native, MacIntyre ranks as a five-star recruit, the No. 20 player and No. 4 quarterback in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings.
Nico Iamaleava, a five-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting cycle, is entering his first season as Tennessee’s starting quarterback after redshirting his freshman season in Knoxville. Despite redshirting last season, Iamaleava played in five games and started in the Vols’ Citrus Bowl win over Iowa where he completed 12-of-19 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown while adding 27 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Tennessee and Iamaleava open up the 2024 season on Aug. 31 against UTC at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
