Scott McLaughlin, the driver of the No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet, set a speed record this past Sunday to claim his first Indianapolis 500 pole.

McLaughlin, 30, bettered the pole speed mark set only a year ago with a four-lap average qualifying speed of 234.220 miles per hour on the Brickyard’s 2.5-mile oval.

That has cemented the New Zealand native as the pre-race favorite with +450 FanDuel odds as of midweek as he chases his first Indy 500 title.

Team Penske teammate and reigning Indy champ Josef Newgarden had the second-best odds at +550.

In fact, it will be an all-Team Penske starting front row as Will Power joins McLaughlin and Newgarden.

Power, the 2018 Indy 500 champ, and Kyle Larson were tied for third as of Wednesday with +650 FanDuel odds while current IndyCar standings leader Alex Palou and 2016 winner Alexander Rossi were the only other drivers with 10-1 or better odds, both at +1000.

Helio Castroneves, seeking a record fifth Indy 500 championship, starts in the seventh row with +3200 odds. Castroneves, who turned 49 earlier this month, broke through with his first Indy title in 2001 and followed with wins in 2002, 2009 and 2021.
