The final three days of the SEC tournament will feature six fascinating teams vying for the conference’s top prize.
The storyline around the 2024 tournament has been the rise of the lower-seeded teams. The top four seeds in the tournament (Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas A&M) all lost their first game on Tuesday but remained in the tournament with the double-elimination format. The Razorbacks and Aggies went on to lose on Wednesday as well, sending them both home packing before the regionals round next month.
11-seed LSU and 8-seed Vanderbilt have already punched their tickets to the semifinal round in the top and bottom halves of the bracket, respectively. The Tigers defeated Georgia in game one, Kentucky in game two, and South Carolina in game three to advance to the Saturday round. Vanderbilt, on the other hand, took down Florida in game one, Tennessee in game two, and Mississippi State in game three to get to Saturday.
After stumbling out of the gates in a loss to Vanderbilt, the Vols rebounded nicely with a strong win to eliminate Texas A&M on Thursday. Tennessee won by a score of 7-4 after some late-game noise put the game away at the end. Kentucky, meanwhile, fell to LSU by a score of 11-0 in the second round but bounced back with a tough win over Arkansas to eliminate the Razorbacks on Thursday.
Two quarterfinal games will take place on Friday before the semifinal round on Saturday. Three-seed Kentucky will take on 10-seed South Carolina in an elimination game at 4:00 p.m. ET on Friday for the right to play LSU in the semifinals. One-seed Tennessee will also play five-seed Mississippi State in an elimination game on Friday night for the right to play Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon. The winners of both contests will meet in the SEC Tournament championship game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET from the Hoover Met.
