Tennessee baseball concluded its regular season with another impressive week, run-ruling Belmont in a midweek matchup before sweeping South Carolina to conclude the regular season.
With the series sweep, Tennessee ended the regular season 46-10 (22-8 SEC) to earn a share of the SEC Championship and the one-seed in this week’s SEC Tournament for the second time in three years.
The Vols dominated game one of the weekend series in a 9-3 victory. After trailing 3-0 in the middle innings of game two of the weekend series, Tennessee scored four runs in the sixth and seventh inning to blow past the Gamecocks and earned a series clinching victory.
Tennessee used strong pitching from Zander Sechrist and Aaron Combs to complete the weekend sweep of South Carolina with a 4-1 victory.
At the plate, Tennessee’s Christian Moore was fantastic again hitting seven-of-12 with three home runs. Centerfielder Hunter Ensley also had a big weekend, reaching base in eight of 12 plate appearances while hitting the go-ahead three-run homer in game two of the weekend series.
On the mound, Sechrist was dominant as was Combs who retired all eight batters he faced in two games while striking out five of them. Drew Beam and AJ Causey each turned in solid performances as well.
