The lineup for the 149th Preakness Stakes has already suffered a major setback due to morning-line favorite Muth being scratched due to a spiking fever. That leaves eight horses entered in the race at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md.
Muth was a big favorite for the Preakness and would have been for the Kentucky Derby, too, if he had been able to run. He was left out of that race, however, due to trainer Bob Baffert’s suspension from Churchill Downs.
Muth’s exit paves the way for Kentucky Derby champion Mystik Dan to be the new favorite with 5-to-2 odds. The only other horse with better than 15-to-1 odds is Catching Freedom at 6-to-1. Catching Freedom placed fourth at the Kentucky Derby, 1 ¾ lengths behind Mystik Dan.
Just Steel is the only other Derby participant in the Preakness field. Just Steel placed 17th out of 20 in the Derby and has 15-to-1 odds to win the Preakness.
