Report: Top Tennessee Basketball Transfer Target Lines Up A Pair Of Visits

Tennessee basketball transfer portal target Chaz Lanier has lined up a pair of visits for this weekend and earlier next week, 247sports’ Travis Branham first reported on Friday afternoon.

Lanier plans on visiting BYU this weekend and Kentucky on Monday according to Branham. While the North Florida shooting guard hasn’t ironed out a date to visit Tennessee but plans on taking a trip to Knoxville after taking visits to both BYU and Kentucky.

The 6-foot-4 guard ranks as one of the best transfers this offseason. He’s a four-star and the No. 10 transfer in the country according to the 247sports transfer rankings and a four-star and the No. 8 transfer in the country according to the On3 transfer rankings.

A rising super senior, Lanier had a breakout season at North Florida last year. He averaged 19.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in his senior season and was the most efficient scorer in the country according to Synergy. Lanier shot 51% from the field, 44% from three-point range and 88% from the free throw line last season.

Lanier declared for the NBA Draft last month and is currently going through the draft process. He played at the G League Elite camp last weekend and has until May 31 to remove his name from the NBA Draft and return to college for his final season of eligibility.

Tennessee basketball has a number of connections to Lanier. The shooting guard in a Nashville native and played his prep basketball at the Ensworth School. That’s the same high school that former Tennessee guards Josh and Jordan Bone played at and Lanier has a relationship with the former Volunteer guards.

The Vols currently have three scholarships to work with as it fills out its roster for the 2024-25 season. The Vols lost three players to graduation and four players to the transfer portal. They added four-star point guard Bishop Boswell from the prep ranks and have landed Ohio State center Felix Okpara, Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar and Charlotte stretch forward Igor Milicic Jr. in the transfer portal to date.
