Tennessee second baseman Christian Moore was named the Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Month for April on Friday, as announced by the Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Moore follows in the footsteps of Tennessee pitcher Drew Beam, who was tagged as the NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy Pitcher of the Month in March 2022.

Moore put up an astronomical month of baseball, leading the Volunteers’ offense in several different categories. According to UT Sports, Moore led Tennessee in batting average (.452), home runs (10), hits (28), runs (20), RBIs (27), total bases (63), doubles (5), slugging percentage (1.016) and on-base percentage (.507).

No player from the SEC had more hits than Moore during the month of April, either.

Moore’s big month helped contribute to Tennessee’s 13-3 April as the Vols found series wins over Auburn (2/3), LSU (3/3), No. 3 Kentucky (2/3), and Missouri (3/3). Tennessee also went 3-of-4 in midweek games in April, taking down Alabama A&M by 18, Bellarmine by 15, Western Carolina by eight, and a loss to Lipscomb by three.

Moore hit a home run in each of Tennessee’s games against Auburn, two in the series finale against LSU, and three in the series-clinching finale against Kentucky in Lexington.

Moore is posting a .375 batting average* through the first 44 games of the season, with 66 hits*, 49 runs, 13 doubles, 20 home runs*, 46 RBIs, and a .790 slugging percentage*.

Moore and the No. 3 Vols are set for three games in two days against the Florida Gators this weekend, prompted by a weather suspension forcing a doubleheader on Friday and the series finale on Saturday. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider’s live updates for the Friday games by clicking here.
