Tennessee baseball improved its strong play over the weekend, sweeping Missouri in a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
It was a rare quiet weekend for the Vols’ offense. After exploding for 10 runs in their series opening win, Tennessee scored just three runs in the final two games of the season. Christian Moore had another big weekend hitting while Billy Amick and Dean Curley helped bolster the offense.
Tennessee’s pitching was fantastic over the course of the weekend against a lackluster Missouri offense. AJ Causey allowed just one run while striking out six batters in six innings pitched in the series opening victory. Drew Beam was fantastic on Friday night, allowing just two runs in 7.1 innings pitched.
Both Kirby Connell and Aaron Combs were fantastic in relief outings, shutting out the Tigers in five innings pitched while striking out five batters. The Vols’ defense was also very strong over the weekend with Cal Stark, Dean Curley and Kavares Tears all making great plays.
Tennessee has now won 10 of its last 11 SEC games and is just a game out of first place in the SEC standings with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
Despite the series sweep, the Vols stayed relatively steady in the rankings this week. Taking a look at where Tennessee landed here.
