Tennessee basketball landed its second commit in the transfer portal on Thursday morning when Ohio State center Felix Okpara committed to Rick Barnes and his staff.
Okpara is a major get for the Vols in the portal and will be the replacement for Jonas Aidoo. Paired with JP Estrella, Okpara is poised to be a major piece in Tennessee’s front court.
So what is Tennessee getting in Okpara?
A 6-foot-11, 235-pound center who is one of the best rim protectors not only in the transfer portal but in the country as a whole. During his sophomore season, Okpara posted a 10.2% block rate last season, a mark that ranked 18th nationally and better than anyone on Tennessee’s roster.
Okpara is a bit offensively limited but is a strong lob threat and finishes well at the basket. He doesn’t have a strong back to the basket game or a jump shot. Starting 34 games for Ohio State, Okpara averaged 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds while starting 34 games for the Buckeyes last season.
