Tennessee landed their first commitment in the 2025 class with 6-foot-9 center DeWayne Brown on Saturday evening. Brown, a current junior in high school, will arrive to Rocky Top before the 2025-2026 season.
The 235-pound prospect from Hoover High School in Hoover, AL, is ranked as a four-star prospect according to On3 and ESPN’s rankings while 247 Sports and Rivals have the young prospect as a three-star prospect early in the recruiting cycle.
According to 247’s composite rankings, Brown holds a four-star ranking, is the No. 143 player in the class, the No. 22 center in 2025, and the top player from the state of Alabama.
With Brown’s commitment to Tennessee, the Vols join 15 other programs on the 247 Sports 2025 team rankings. Thirteen of the 16 teams only have one commit in the class, with Tennessee falling in that mix. Brown’s commitment gives Tennessee the No. 13 ranking.

It’s still extremely early in the process, as evidenced by a little more than a dozen teams on the list. But when it comes to Brown, though, the four-star prospect was ready to make his decision. During his commitment on Instagram Live on Saturday evening, Brown said that he had made up his mind and was ready to get his commitment out of the way despite it being so early in the process. Tennessee will surely work to get Brown more and more acclimated with the team and the program over the 2024-2025 season while Brown is a senior in high school.

Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Iowa State all have two commitments from the 2025 class on board so far. Tennessee (13) joins the SEC’s Missouri (6), Georgia (7), Florida (9), and Ole Miss (11) with one commitment in the class.
