Tennessee baseball is coming off its best weekend of the season, sweeping the defending National Champion LSU Tigers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

There were no run-rule victories for Tennessee against the Tigers but they played solid baseball in all three games including its best pitching weekend since the start of SEC play.

Coming out of the bullpen in a long relief outing, RHP AJ Causey found his groove after two bad starts. The submarine pitcher didn’t allow a run in 4.2 innings pitched while Tennessee took the series opening win. RHP Drew Beam turned in his second straight strong start on Saturday and Zander Sechrist got deep into the game for the second time in three weeks in Sunday’s series finale.

At the plate, Tennessee’s top three hitters led the way. Billy Amick returned to the field and homered on the first pitch he saw before turning in a four-of-10 weekend with a pair of long balls. Blake Burke recorded five hits and a pair of extra-base hits while Christian Moore recorded four hits including two long balls in the Vols’ Sunday win.

Tennessee now enters the midway point in conference play with a 10-5 conference record that ranks second in the SEC East and fourth in the SEC. The Vols head on the road this weekend to face a top five Kentucky team that currently sits atop the SEC standings at 14-1.

After the series sweep, Tennessee baseball moved up in rankings across the country. Here’s where they landed.
