Named the fourth head coach in Tennessee women’s basketball program history on Sunday afternoon, Kim Caldwell opened up her Lady Vols tenure with an introductory press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

“What an incredible honor it is to be the head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols,” Caldwell said to open up her Tennessee tenure.

Caldwell had a four-minute opening statement where she thanked the Tennessee administration for their belief as well as all who were involved with her at both Marshall University and Glenville State University. Caldwell spoke about her family ties to the sport of basketball, her excitement about working with her players, and her admiration for Tennessee icon Pat Summitt.

“The part of history that I need no catching up on is Pat Summitt’s legacy and how powerful the Lady Vol family is,” Caldwell said. “When I say I am honored and humbled to be here, there is not a single person who has gone through this program that I could even come close to beating one-on-one. It is a remarkable program.”

Caldwell then took questions from the Tennessee media for the first time, where she answered questions about her up-tempo offense translating to the SEC, where her previous experience will be helpful, wanting to be at a program with high expectations, and much more.
