Tennessee baseball picked up its third straight series win over the weekend as the Vols took two out of three games at Auburn.
The Vols dropped their series opener on Friday night as starting pitcher AJ Causey struggled for the second straight time and couldn’t overcome an early deficit in a 9-5 loss.
Tony Vitello’s seventh Tennessee team responded in commanding fashion run-ruling Auburn 12-2 in game two and 19-5 in game three of the weekend series. It marked the Vols’ third straight series rubber match victory and marked their first road series win of the season.
Tennessee’s offense was dominant against a struggling Auburn pitching staff. The Vols hit 14 home runs over the course of the weekend with five different batters going deep multiple times. Three different Tennessee hitters posted a batting average .500 or over and an on-base percentage higher than .600.
On the mound, Drew Beam was fantastic in seven innings on Saturday while Aaron Combs and Nate Snead each had strong relief outings.
With the series win, Tennessee improved to 7-5 in SEC play ahead of this week’s three-game series against defending National Champion LSU.
The Vols stayed relatively steady in this week’s rankings after taking care of a struggling Auburn team on the road. Here’s where they landed in the rankings afterwards.
