The Gamecocks are looking to complete an undefeated season with a win in the title game. Dawn Staley’s squad enters this matchup with a perfect 37-0 record on the season, and they are playing dominating basketball in the tournament. South Carolina has won four of its five tournament games in overwhelming fashion, with winning margins of 52, 47, 22, and 19 points. The only close game the Gamecocks have played in the tournament came against Indiana in the Sweet 16, where they won 79-75.
The only thing standing in the way of an undefeated season for the Gamecocks is Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Clark is averaging 30 points per game in the tournament thus far, but wasn’t clicking on all cylinders against UConn, as she scored just 21 points and shot 3-of-11 from three. If Iowa is going to take down South Carolina, she is going to have to score early and often.
Oddsmakers are favoring the Gamecocks. On DraftKings Sportsbook, South Carolina is listed as a 6.5-point favorite with moneyline odds of -278. On the other side, Iowa has moneyline odds of +225 as a 6.5-point underdog. The total, or over/under, is listed at 160.5.
Iowa is the highest-scoring team in the country, and it’s not just Clark that South Carolina has to worry about. Hannah Stuelke is averaging 14.1 points per game this season, and she is coming off an impressive 23-point performance against UConn. Kate Martin is also averaging double-digit points per game, and while she struggled in the first half against UConn, she hit some clutch shots down the stretch which should give her plenty of confidence going into this one. Other role players such as Sydney Affolter and Gabbie Marshall can also contribute in significant ways.
South Carolina’s offense is able to put points on the board in a hurry as well. As a group the Gamecocks score 86.1 points per game, and Carmilla Cardoso should have favorable matchups down low against the Hawkeyes. Look for South Carolina to get her heavily involved in the offensive game plan early on.
When these teams met last season in the Final Four, 150 total points were scored. Iowa’s offense has only gotten better, and even against a stingy UConn defense, the Hawkeyes were still able to put up 71 points despite a subpar shooting night from Clark. She couldn’t find a rhythm early on, but it would be somewhat surprising if that happens two games in a row. All in all, both of these teams can score in a hurry, which makes Over 160.5 an appealing bet.

She has attempted a whopping 65 threes in five March Madness games, knocking down 23 of them. She shot 17 threes against South Carolina in the Final Four last season, and as previously mentioned, if Iowa wants to win this game, Clark is going to have to have a big night. Don’t be shocked if she attempts 20+ three-pointers in this one, and it’s worth backing her to knock down at least six.
