Tennessee advanced to their second straight Sweet 16 with a win over 7-seed Texas on Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina.

While the game wasn’t pretty for any stretch of the 40-minute contest, Tennessee lived out the old March Madness cliche: Survive and advance.

Tennessee survived and advanced past Texas with a 62-58 victory in the second round.

“Proud of the effort,” Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said after the game. “These are the kinds of games in the tournament you get bounced when you shoot as poorly as we did, but we found a way with our defense.”

Dalton Knecht recorded a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds while Jonas Aidoo added in 11 and Josiah-Jordan James scored 10 with nine rebounds himself.

Rick Barnes met with the media after the game on Saturday and talked about his thoughts on the contest, Zakai Zeigler’s play, his connection to Texas, and much more. Texas head coach Rodney Terry also met with the media following Barnes and the Tennessee players.
