Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes continues to rack up bonus money this year with $600,000 heading his way over the first weekend of the tournament.
According to USA Today sports writer and editor Steve Berkowitz, Barnes’ season bonus total is now up to $1 million.
Berkowitz’s report states that the ninth-year Tennessee coach received $400,000 for the Vols’ SEC regular season championship, $200,000 for Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament bid, and $400,000 for Tennessee’s Round of 32 appearance.
According to Barnes’ official contract but not listed in Berkowitz’s tweet, the Tennessee head coach also has a $200,000 bonus coming his way for a Top 10 final AP Poll ranking (#6).
(2) Tennessee found a huge win over (15) Saint Peter’s in the first round of the tournament and followed that up with a win over (7) Texas on Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina. After punching their ticket to the Sweet 16 with a win over the Longhorns, Tennessee will take on (3) Creighton this Friday in Detroit, Michigan.

Barnes signed a contract extension with Tennessee in September 2023, which will run through the 2027-2028 season. It was the third straight year that Barnes had signed a one-year extension.
The ninth-year Tennessee coach will make $5.7 million as a base salary during the 2023-2024 season.
