Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks met with the media on Tuesday morning in Knoxville after the Vols wrapped up their first full-length practice of the spring camp slate.

Tennessee is moving into their fourth year with Banks in charge of the defense but will have a new assistant on his side of the ball. Fresh off of a trip to the National Championship, Tennessee’s staff brought in former Washington assistant William Inge to coach the linebackers.

“William’s been great,” Banks said of his linebackers coach. “He brings a wealth of experience, coaching at every level. He’s been good. The biggest thing for me is him and the relationship he has with our guys. Because that’s what it is – building relationships. Man, he hit the ground running. The guys love him. He’s a great teacher. Just a great personality. We really hit the jackpot with him so I’m excited he’s here.”

An important part of the spring slate is getting the newcomers adjusted to Tennessee’s pace, practice habits, and language of the system. Freshman defensive back Edrees Farooq praised Banks as one of the best coaches he’s ever been around despite not a ton of time spent together.

Banks spoke about the new and returning pieces that he has to work with on all three levels of the defense, highlighting Keenan Pili’s recovery, Boo Carter’s athleticism, and much more.
