Tennessee Baseball Falls In Rankings After SEC Opening Series Loss

Tennessee baseball fell in this week’s rankings after going 2-2 last week with a midweek victory over Eastern Kentucky before dropping two out of three games in its SEC opening series at Alabama.

The Vols extended their winning streak to 17 games when they blew past Alabama 11-3 in Friday night’s series opener. But clutch hitting eluded Tennessee and the Vols made a few defensive and base running errors that cost them in a 6-3 game two and a 7-6 game three loss in Tuscaloosa.

The Sunday series finale was a back-and-forth affair with Alabama pulling ahead in the eighth inning thanks to a three-run Gage Miller home run. Tennessee loaded the bases and even scored one run in the ninth inning but couldn’t do enough to scratch the tying run across.

It was a disappointing opening weekend of conference play for Tennessee, but not a devastating one either. The Vols look to bounce back this week with a midweek bout against Xavier and its SEC home opening series against Ole Miss.

Tennessee dropped in the rankings after falling in Tuscaloosa but remained in the top 10 according to most  major rankings. Check out the rankings here.
