Tennessee third baseman Billy Amick earned the SEC Player of the Week title after an impressive showing in the Vols’ four home games this past week in Knoxville.

Amick, Tennessee’s transfer infielder from Clemson who is currently leading the team in home runs through the first 12 games (7), recorded a hit in each of the Vols’ four games and sent a ball over the fence in the first three games of the week.

Here’s a look at Amick’s stats this week on Rocky Top:

  • Tuesday, 7-4 win over High Point
    • 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 home run
  • Friday, 11-1 win over Bowling Green

Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello was complimentary of Amick’s performance over the week.

“I think he’s older and always has success at the plate,” Vitello said of Amick after Saturday’s win over Bowling Green. “You want the guys to work hard but you also want them to know what they need and what they don’t need. Whether it be on defense or offense – also in the weight room. He’s got a pretty good understanding of who he is and what he needs to do. He’s a good listener when you offer him information but he’s not looking to add eyewash or anything like that. The fact that he lives his day-to-day life and also works his day-to-day to prepare for games, kind of with that same mantra.”

Amick’s seven home runs through the first 12 games of Tennessee’s season ranks T-third in the nation and T-second in the SEC behind Georgia’s Charlie Condon (8).

Amick has been one of if not Tennessee’s brightest spots this season with his poise and power at the plate combined with pleasant reliability on the opposition’s corner of the infield.

Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider for consistent coverage from the Tennessee baseball season as the non-conference schedule continues to roll on for Tony Vitello’s ballclub.
