Tennessee baseball opened play at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this week, returning home from a strong season-opening weekend in Dallas for five home games.

The Vols went 5-0 on the week, defeating UNC-Asheville and ETSU before sweeping UAlbany in their first series of the season.

Tony Vitello’s seventh Tennessee team was shaky in wins over UNC-Asheville and in game one against UAlbany. The Vols knocked off the Bulldogs 3-2 on Tuesday and the Great Danes 8-5 on Friday. In the three other wins, Tennessee outscored its foes 49-6.

Several Tennessee players had big weeks, most notably junior college transfer Robin Villeneuve who went four-of-six at the plate with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and a pair of walks and hit-by pitch in the weekend series against UAlbany.

Villeneuve tied both Kavares Tears and Billy Amick for a team-best five runs batted in the Vols’ weekend series against the Great Danes.

On the mound, a number of Vols had strong weekends including RHP Nate Snead who struck out two and didn’t allow a baserunner in 2.2 innings pitched.

After the 5-0 week, Tennessee baseball slightly moved up in a number of rankings. Check out where they landed here.
