The Vols stole the Valentine’s Day love in Fayetteville on Wednesday night as No. 8 Tennessee handed Arkansas their second-worst loss in Bud Walton Arena history in a 92-63 win over the Razorbacks.
In simple, Tennessee shut down Arkansas with a dominant performance in the paint led by Jonas Aidoo, a suffocating second half defensively, and a balanced scoring effort from a handful of the Vols’ players.
Aidoo was terrific for Tennessee on Wednesday night with 23 points and 12 rebounds as he helped the Vols build a 48-22 scoring advantage over the Razorbacks in the paint. Arkansas had no answer for Tennessee’s big man as he hit from different spots on the court.
Dalton Knecht continued his scoring streak with 22 points but also added four rebounds and three critical blocks throughout the game.
Jordan Gainey came off the bench and gave Tennessee a huge spark when the Vols and Razorbacks were trading punches early on. Gainey came in and hit three shots in his first five minutes on the court and ended up with 17 total points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Tennessee recorded four double-digit scoring performances with Aidoo’s 23, Knecht’s 22, Gainey’s 17, and Josiah-Jordan James’ 12. Tennessee point guard Zakai Zeigler also came up one point short with nine points and six assists.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes met with the media after the game to discuss his thoughts on the contest. Barnes spoke about Tennessee’s scoring inside, big nights from Aidoo and Gainey, what the Vols did to shut Arkansas out in the second half, and much more.
