Coming out of high school, Jauan Jennings was a higher rated quarterback prospect than either San Fransisco quarterback Brock Purdy or Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Long after moving to receiver, Jennings accounted for the first touchdown of Super Bowl 58. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan drew up a double pass late in the second quarter and Jennings found Christian McCaffrey for a 21-yard score.

Jennings was a four-star recruit and the No. 165 player in the 2015 signing class according to the 247sports composite rankings. A standout at Murfreesboro’s Blackman High School, Jennings was the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 7 player in the state of Tennessee in his class.

Jennings quickly converted to a receiver once he enrolled at Tennessee and went on to have a storied five-year career in Knoxville.
The trick play was very similar to a play Tennessee football ran in its 2015 loss at Florida. The quarterback throwing a backwards pass to Jennings who waits and fires back across the field on a screen pass. In the 2015 matchup in Gainesville, Jennings hit Josh Dobbs for a 48-yard touchdown. Jennings is in the fourth-year in the NFL and is in the Super Bowl for the first time in his career. A go-to third down target, the former Tennessee receiver caught 19 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown this regular season.
The first touchdown of Super Bowl 58 gave San Francisco a 10-0 lead over Kansas City in the second quarter.
