Tennessee golf standout Caleb Surratt’s collegiate career is over in the midst of his sophomore year. Surratt, one of the top amateurs in the world, signed to play professionally for LIV Golf on Tuesday.
“I am so proud to see Caleb’s determined work pay off for him and take the next step into the professional ranks,” Tennessee head men’s golf coach Brennan Webb said in a statement. “Our biggest role as a program is to prepare our players for the next step in their careers on and off the course and Caleb is ready to take advantage of this incredible opportunity he has earned. His immediate impact on our program will be felt for many years to come and I am grateful for the opportunity to coach such a special player and special young man during his time on Rocky Top. Like everyone at Tennessee Golf, I am proud that Caleb is a VFL and look forward to watching his career progress at the highest levels.”
An Indian Trail, North Carolina native, Surratt immediately made waves as one of Tennessee golf’s best ever players when he arrived on campus as a freshman. In his freshman season, Surratt won the individual SEC Championship by six strokes and posted a program-record single-season stroke average of 69.58 while setting another single-season program record in rounds of par or better with 27.

The electrifying freshman season was good enough for Surratt to become Tennessee’s first ever men’s First Team All-American.
Last summer, Surratt competed for the United States in both the Arnold Palmer Cup and Walker Cup. Amateur golf team events modeled after the Ryder and Presidents Cup, the Walker Cup pits the United States’ best against Great Britain and Ireland’s best while the Arnold Palmer cup pits the United States’ best against the rest of the world.
Surratt was unbeaten in both events and advanced to the Round of 32 at the US Men’s Amateur.
With LIV Golf, Surratt joins team Legion XIII which currently includes Jon Rahm, Tyrell Hatton and Kieran Vincent. Rahm is currently the No. 3 player in the World Golf Rankings and is the reigning Master’s winner.
