KenPom projects the Vols to knock off South Carolina 75-63 in the first of two matchups between the two schools this season.

Tennessee basketball dominated South Carolina in each of the two meetings last season, knocking off the Gamecocks 85-42 in Columbia and 85-45 in Knoxville later in the season. Lamont Paris’ first South Carolina team went just 11-21 (4-14 SEC) in an extremely underwhelming season.

But the Gamecocks are one of the conference’s most improved teams this season. The SEC’s media picked South Carolina last this preseason but the Gamecocks have exceeded all expectations, entering the matchup 17-3 (5-2 SEC).

Paris’ second South Carolina team enters the matchup on a three-game winning streak with a road win over Arkansas and home victories over Kentucky and Missouri. The Gamecocks’ win over Kentucky was huge for their NCAA Tournament hopes as they were lacking a marquee win beforehand.

Tennessee enters the matchup riding a four-game winning streak and tied atop the SEC standing with a 5-1 record. The Vols played just one-game last week, overcoming a nine-point first half deficit to defeat Vanderbilt, 75-62. Rick Barnes’ ninth Tennessee team is looking to defend home court before Saturday’s road trip to Lexington to face rival Kentucky.

Tipoff at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is at 6:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. Tom Hart, Dane Bradshaw and Alyssa Lang are on the call for the SEC Network.
