Tennessee veteran guard Santiago Vescovi set a new program record on Rocky Top with his start against Vanderbilt on Saturday evening in Nashville.

According to Tennessee Athletics, “Vescovi passed Chris Lofton (2004-08) and Allan Houston (1989-93) for sole possession of the most starts in program history with 129.”

The fifth-year senior recorded 12 points on 3-of-8 shooting in 33 minutes during his start against Vanderbilt from Memorial Gymnasium.

Additionally, according to UT Sports, “Vescovi also passed Tony White (1983-87) for third place on Tennessee’s all-time minutes played leaderboard, now with 4,055.”

Vescovi, a product of the NBA Global Academy and NBA Academy Latin, joined the Vols’ program as a midseason enrollee during the 2019-2020 season and immediately made an impact. Vescovi brought new offensive abilities to Tennessee when the Vols needed it.

Vescovi was the only Tennessee player to start all 35 games of the 2021-2022 season during his junior year and led Tennessee in minutes (31.2 mpg) and three-point percentage (.403) while finishing second in scoring (13.3 PPG) and assists (3.2 APG).

Now in his fifth and final season with Tennessee, Vescovi is looking to end his collegiate career on the right note and surpass last season’s Sweet 16 berth. Vescovi has 1,465 career points on 458 made baskets to date over the span of his five-year career on Rocky Top.

No. 5 Tennessee defeated Vanderbilt by a score of 75-62 on Saturday night for their 12th win over the Commodores in the last 13 contests.
