Former Tennessee offensive lineman Gerald Mincey played on Rocky Top for two seasons but will be heading to Lexington for his final collegiate season.

Mincey hit the transfer portal following Tennessee’s win in the Citrus Bowl and emerged as a Kentucky commit eight days later. Mincey is now on his third SEC team as he was originally with Florida for two seasons before his time at Tennessee.

The former Vol took to social media on Thursday evening to address Tennessee fans that he found to be negative or hurtful following his transfer.

Really gave my all to Tennessee reading all these negative comments hurts man not gonna lie played this past season with a torn MCL and was able to help my team win a bowl game with a big smile on my face because I did love being a volunteer but shid business is business,Mincey wrote on social media.

Mincey followed that up with another tweet that said, “November 2nd.”

It’s clear to see that Mincey is eyeing his return to Knoxville as Tennessee hosts Kentucky in Neyland Stadium next season on Nov. 2.

Mincey began his career as a three-star recruit from Fort Lauderdale with the Florida Gators program. The 6-foot-6 offensive lineman earned a redshirt bid during his first year and played in all 10 games as a reserve lineman during his redshirt freshman year.

From there, though, it was on to Rocky Top. Mincey played in nine games for Tennessee during the 2022 season with seven starts on the offensive line. While he did miss some time due to injury, Mincey saw 457 offensive snaps and only allowed one sack during the season.

Mincey returned to Knoxville for his redshirt junior season in 2023 and played in all 13 games with starts in six of the games. Mincey and fellow offensive lineman Jeremiah Crawford split time at the left tackle spot before he was moved to right tackle for the final stretch of the season.

Mincey’s 61.5 grade (578 snaps) from Pro Football Focus was the third-best grade among Tennessee’s offensive linemen, finishing behind OG Javontez Spraggins (67.9, 699 snaps) and OG Jackson Lampley (66.3, 221 plays).

After the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day, Gerald Mincey entered the transfer portal on Jan. 4 and committed to Kentucky on Jan. 12. Tennessee will host Mincey and the Wildcats on November 2 in Neyland Stadium. The Vols will be coming off an open date before the border rivalry game.
