Tennessee offensive lineman John Campbell Jr. started nine games at left tackle for the Vols last season. When he announced that he was returning for his final season of eligibility, Campbell seemed poise to start at left tackle for the Vols again next season.

But Campbell shared a video of him working out on Wednesday. At first glance, there’s nothing that stands out about the video. But upon second glance, Campbell is working out of a right tackle’s stance.

Why is Campbell practicing at right tackle something to note? Because of Tennessee’s pursuit of LSU offensive tackle transfer Lance Heard.

More From RTI: Blue-Chip Receiver Visiting Tennessee This Weekend

Heard ranks as the No. 18 player and No. 3 offensive tackle in the transfer portal according to 247sports. The Monroe, Louisiana native was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and earned Freshman All-SEC honors last season.

The offensive tackle played 195 snaps in five games for LSU last season, earning a 71.4 PFF grade. Heard played right tackle as a freshman at LSU but his desire to play left tackle is part of the reason he entered the transfer portal.

Tennessee has been in pursuit of Heard since he entered the transfer portal and 2023 starting right tackle Gerald Mincey entered the transfer portal. Heard took a visit to Tennessee and Oklahoma and also expressed interest in Ole Miss.

The Vols landing Heard would be a massive win for Tennessee in the transfer portal and would explain why Campbell is working at right tackle.
