After a search that lasted less than 48 hours, Alabama football has reportedly found its newest head coach. The Crimson Tide are poaching Washington coach Kalen DeBoer as the school’s 28th head football coach, ESPN’s Chris Low first reported.

DeBoer comes to Alabama after spending two seasons at Washington where he lead the Huskies to the National Championship game this past season. After inheriting a 2-10 team, DeBoer led Washington to a 25-3 record in his two seasons.

Like Josh Heupel, DeBoer is a South Dakota native but unlike Tennessee’s head coach, DeBoer comes to the SEC without SEC coaching ties and with little big time college coaching experience.

But wherever DeBoer’s gone, he’s won. In nine seasons as a head coach, DeBoer’s teams have posted a combined 104-12 record. The 49-year old coach spent five seasons as the head coach at Sioux Falls where he led them to three NAIA Championships and a runner up.

After five years at Sioux Falls, DeBoer moved up to a higher coaching level with assistant coach stops Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State and then Indiana. After one-year at Indiana, DeBoer went to Fresno State where he spent two seasons atop the Bulldogs’ program.

DeBoer takes over for the legendary Nick Saban who led the Crimson Tide to nine SEC Championships and six National Championships in his 17-seasons as head coach.
