Five-star Georgia quarterback commit Dylan Raiola flipped his commitment to Nebraska football on Monday night after weeks of speculation.

Raiola is a five-star recruit and the No. 6 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Buford, Georgia native ranks as the second best quarterback in the 2024 recruiting cycle and the top prospect in the state of Georgia.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound quarterback committed to Georgia in May before flipping his commitment to Nebraska on Monday. Raiola was previously committed to Ohio State before de-committing and eventually committing to Georgia.

Landing Raiola is a massive win for first-year coach Matt Rhule. Nebraska had moderate success early in Rhule’s first season before struggling down the stretch and missing a bowl game with a 5-7 record.

Losing Raiola is certainly a hit to Georgia. The five-star quarterback was the second highest rated recruit and the lone quarterback commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle. But the Bulldogs are as capable of any program of overcoming the loss. Their recruiting class still ranks No. 1 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.

One potential implication for Tennessee is that the Vols’ quarterback commit Jake Merklinger is a Savannah, Georgia native. Georgia was in Merklinger’s top group when he committed to Tennessee in March though it didn’t seem like Georgia was recruiting him extremely hard due to its pursuit of Raiola.

It seems unlikely that Georgia would be able to flip the longtime Tennessee commit but it will be worth keeping an eye on whether the Bulldogs make an effort to do so.
