Minnesota Vikings at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m. ET
After an abysmal start by QB Joshua Dobbs last weekend, the Vikings turned the keys over to Nick Mullens, who led them a game-winning drive to beat the Raiders 3-0. He’ll get the start against the Bengals, who are coming off back-to-wins as underdogs with their backup QB Jake Browning.
Browning is quickly making a name for himself. In three starts, he has accumulated 856 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns. Most importantly — the Bengals are 2-1 in those games. In doing so, he has elevated the Bengals back into playoff contention.
With a complete unknown at QB for the Vikings, it’s hard to know what to expect from their offense. However, even if he performs well, going into the Jungle and defeating a team top 10 in forced turnovers is a tall task for an inexperienced QB, and a wager it’s probably best to avoid.
Best Prop Bet: Jake Browning Over 243.5 Passing Yards (+106 odds on Caesars Sportsbook)
Pittsburgh Steelers at Indianapolis Colts, 4:30 p.m. ET
Defensively, both teams are similarly matched. Offensively, however, they are night and day. Gardner Minshew has stepped in masterfully for the Colts’ injured rookie QB Anthony Richardson. In 11 games (starting and filling in) he has helped the Colts become one of the top scoring offenses in the NFL, averaging 24 points per game (8th).
Meanwhile, the Steelers have turned to Mitch Trubisky, who hasn’t performed much better than Kenny Pickett, who suffered an injury. In two starts since being handed the keys, Trubisky hasn’t passed for more than 200 yards or secured a win. The Steelers will need to force turnovers to stay competitive, and the Colts are known to have a few per game.
Even with the turnovers, it’s currently not a good decision to bet on a Steelers’ victory.
Best Bet: Colts -1.5 (-110 odds on BetMGM Sportsbook)
Denver Broncos at Detroit Lions, 8:15 p.m. ET
After a blazing start, the Lions are coming down to Earth. They have lost two of their last four games, with losses to the Packers to Bears. Whether it be turnover issues from QB Jared Goff or a poor defensive effort, the Lions are performing up to the standard they set early. Meanwhile, the Broncos have done a 180 in their season, winning six of the last seven games after starting 1-5.
The biggest reason for their success is the tenacity of their passing game, which should serve them well given Goff’s struggles. Denver owns the sixth-best passing defense in yards allowed and are just outside the top 10 in rushing yards allowed. They are also tied for first in forced turnovers with 24, including 11 interceptions. Goff is tied for sixth in interceptions thrown with 10.
Although the Lions are favored, there is room for an upset in this one based on the numbers.
Best Bet: Broncos moneyline (+188 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
