VFLs in NFL Week 14: Darnell Wright Lays the Boom, Kamara Finds the End Zone Again

Week 14 of the NFL season has officially concluded, and a season-high 24 VFLs saw action in Week 14.

See how each former Vol fared in this past weekend’s action below.

S Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons

Played 84 percent of special teams snaps in Atlanta’s 29-25 loss to the Buccaneers.

DE Derek Barnett – Houston Texans

Recorded two tackles, both of which were TFLs, and one QB hit while playing 41 percent of defensive snaps and 21 percent of special teams snaps in the Texans’ 30-6 loss to the Jets.

Barnett’s stats against the Jets were the first he’s recorded as a Texan.

DT Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders

On the practice squad.

WR Marquez Callaway – New Orleans Saints

Played eight percent of offensive snaps in the Saints’ win over the Panthers.

LS Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans

Snapped for two successful field goal attempts and two successful extra-point attempts and five punts in Tennessee’s thrilling 28-27 road win over the Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

QB Joshua Dobbs – Minnesota Vikings

Completed 10 of 23 pass attempts for 63 yards and rushed five times for 21 yards in the Vikings’ 3-0 win over the Raiders.

Dobbs was benched during the game and has been subsequently replaced by Nick Mullens as the starting quarterback in Minnesota. Barring an injury or another quarterback change, Dobbs will be riding the pine for the rest of the season.

TE/FB Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys

Was on the active roster for the second week in a row and played 60 percent of special teams snaps in the Cowboys’ blowout 33-13 win over the Eagles on Sunday Night Football.

QB Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions

Inactive as he remains on the NFI list still rehabbing his ACL injury. However, Hooker has been getting back on the practice field.

WR Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants

Caught two of three targets for 13 yards while playing 64 percent of offensive snaps as a starting wide receiver for the Giants in their 24-22 win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. Hyatt has started three weeks in a row.

S Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings

Recorded two tackles, both solo, while playing 13 percent of defensive snaps and 86 percent of special teams snaps in Minnesota’s win over Las Vegas.

WR Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers

Failed to catch his lone target while playing 33 percent of offensive snaps and 19 percent of special teams snaps in San Francisco’s 28-16 home win over Seattle.

LB Alexander Johnson – Miami Dolphins

On the practice squad.

FB Jakob Johnson – Las Vegas Raiders

Returned to action after dealing with a concussion and being reverted to the practice squad over the past three weeks. Johnson logged one special teams tackle while playing 64 percent of special teams snaps and 15 percent of offensive snaps in the Raider’s loss to Minnesota.

WR/PR Velus Jones Jr. – Chicago Bears

Caught his lone target for 11 yards and returned two kicks for 51 yards while playing 14 percent of offensive snaps and 29 percent of special teams snaps in Chicago’s 28-13 win over the Lions.

RB Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

Recorded 12 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown and caught three of five targets for -11 yards while playing 54 percent of offensive snaps in New Orleans’ 28-6 win over Carolina.

OL Cade Mays – Carolina Panthers

Played a season-high 79 snaps (99 percent) at left guard during the Panthers’ loss to the Saints. Mays also played 12 percent of special teams snaps.

CB Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions

OUT FOR THE SEASON

WR Joshua Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers

Did not play as he remains on injured reserve due to a knee injury. However, he has since been activated off of IR heading into Week 15 and is expected to play on Thursday Night Football against the Raiders.

RB Cordarrelle Patterson – Atlanta Falcons

Saw three carries for seven yards while playing 17 percent offensive snaps and 19 percent of special teams snaps in Atlanta’s loss to Tampa Bay.

DE Kyle Phillips – New Orleans Saints

Was elevated off of the practice squad ahead of the Saints’ game against the Panthers and played 28 percent of defensive snaps along with 12 percent of special teams snaps. Phillips logged one defensive tackle.

LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions

Logged one tackle, which was his first sack of the season and career, a QB hit, a pass deflection and a TFL while playing 15 percent of defensive snaps. Reeves-Maybin also played 92 percent of special teams snaps as the Lions’ ST captain in their loss to Chicago.

OG Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs

Played every offensive snap at starting right guard for the Chiefs in their 20-17 loss against the Bills. Smith also played 12 percent of special teams snaps (three total).

CB Cameron Sutton – Detroit Lions

Recorded three tackles, two solo, while playing 100 percent of defensive snaps as a starting cornerback for the Lions in their loss to the Bears.

CB Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints

Tied a season-high with six tackles, three solo, two pass deflections and forced a fumble for the first time this season while playing 100 percent of defensive snaps as a starting cornerback for New Orleans in their dominant win over Carolina.

DE Darrell Taylor – Seattle Seahawks

Recorded one tackle and played 35 percent of defensive snaps along with 19 percent of special teams snaps as a starting defensive end for Seattle in their road loss to the 49ers.

WR Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns

Caught two of four targets for 23 yards and played 61 percent of offensive snaps while also playing three percent of special teams snaps in Cleveland’s 31-27 win over Jacksonville.

DL Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers

Recorded a season-high five tackles, three solo, and a TFL while playing 58 percent of defensive snaps and 25 percent of special teams snaps as a starting defensive tackle in the Panthers’ blowout loss to the Saints.

DT Kendal Vickers – Arizona Cardinals

BYE WEEK

OT Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears

Played 100 percent of offensive snaps as a starting right tackle in Chicago’s 15-point win over the Lions and also played 21 percent of special teams snaps.

Wright also made a play that made the rounds on social media, recovering a fumble committed by Justin Fields then trucking a Lions defender as he tried to get back to the line of scrimmage.

Wright was even featured on Kyle Brandt’s infamous “Angry Runs” segment on the popular NFL Network morning show Good Morning Football.

DE Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams

Recorded two tackles, both solo, one sack (his sixth of the season), one QB hit and one TFL while playing 82 percent of defensive snaps and five percent of special teams snaps as a starting defensive end for the Rams in their 37-31 overtime loss to the Ravens on the road.
