Former Tennessee football cornerback Warren Burrell has announced he is transferring to Georgia Tech. Burrell was Tennessee’s first entrant into the portal on November 30 and is the first to announce his transfer destination.

Burrell spent five seasons on Rocky Top and will spend his final year of eligibility in Atlanta with the Yellow Jackets.

In five years with Tennessee, Burrell played in 41 games, totaled 91 tackles, three TFL, one interception, 10 pass deflections and had one fumble recovery.

Burrell had his best season in 2021 when he started all 12 games, recording season-bests in tackles and pass deflections. Coming off a productive 2021, Burrell suffered a season-ending shoulder injury early in the 2022 season. While he returned to action this past season, Burrell was not an every-week starter and logged just eight tackles.

Burrell’s transfer to Georgia Tech means he will play for current Tennessee safety Wesley Walker’s old stomping grounds, as Walker spent his first three seasons of college ball at Georgia Tech.

Burrell is one of seven former Vols to enter the portal so far in this window, as DB Jack Luttrell, DB Brandon Turnage, DB Doneiko Slaughter, OL Mo Clipper Jr., OL Addison Nichols and DE Tyler Baron all remain in the portal.
