Tennessee veteran defensive lineman Tyler Baron is set to enter the transfer portal, according to a report from 247 Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz on Friday afternoon.
The senior defensive lineman played his last four seasons in Knoxville but flirted with the transfer portal on prior occasions. Baron entered the transfer portal after the Music City Bowl in Josh Heupel’s first season on January 6, 2022, but took his name out one day later. Rumors also circulated after the 2022 season that Baron could be a transfer portal candidate, but nothing ended up coming to fruition as the Volunteer State native returned to Rocky Top for his senior season.
Baron put together his most productive season this past year for Tennessee football. The 6-foot-5 lineman racked up 28 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two defended passes, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in a 12-game span. Baron also had a touchdown on a fumble recovery in Tennessee’s homecoming game against UConn.
Baron was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after the season opener against Virginia and was named to the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl Midseason All-American Team.
Tyler Baron is the seventh and biggest Tennessee player to enter the portal so far this week. Other notable outgoing portal names from Tennessee include redshirt senior DB Warren Burrell, redshirt senior DB Brandon Turnage, and redshirt freshman OL Addison Nichols.
