Tennessee reached the Citrus Bowl with an 8-4, 4-4 SEC regular season finish to the year. This will be the third straight bowl game that head coach Josh Heupel has led the Vols into following the Music City Bowl in 2021 and the Orange Bowl in 2022.

The Vols are 1-1 under Josh Heupel in bowl games with a loss to Purdue (2021) and a win over Clemson (2022).

This will be the Vols’ first appearance in the Citrus Bowl since the 2001 season when Tennessee clobbered Michigan by a score of 45-17. This will also be Tennessee’s sixth Citrus Bowl appearance after the 2001, 1996, 1995, 1994, and 1983 seasons.

Iowa is a formidable defensive-heavy opponent that finished as the runner-up in the Big Ten championship game against Michigan this past weekend. The Hawkeyes got blown out by the now-No. 1 team in the playoffs by a score of 26-0 on Saturday night in Indianapolis.

Iowa has wins over Iowa State, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Nebraska with losses to Penn State, Minnesota, and Michigan on the season.
