Star Vanderbilt receiver Will Sheppard plans on entering the transfer portal when it opens on Monday, the senior shared on X.

Sheppard spent four years inside the Vanderbilt program and was one of the Commodores most productive offensive players in Clark Lea’s three seasons as head coach. The Mandeville, Louisiana native has one year of eligibility remaining.

This season, Sheppard caught 47 passes for 684 yards and eight touchdowns. Those numbers are strong on their own but particularly impressive given Vanderbilt only threw for 2,684 yards and 23 touchdowns all season.

Sheppard’s caught 152 passes for 2,067 yards and 21 touchdowns in his four-year Vanderbilt career including 500-plus yards in each of the last three years.

In three career games against Tennessee, Sheppard caught 13 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown.

The Vols could add a receiver to their roster via transfer portal this season but there is no guarantee Tennessee will. Tennessee returns at least three of its top five receivers from this season and could receive four of five if Bru McCoy elects to return for another season.

Vanderbilt is coming off a disappointing 2-10 season that saw them go winless in SEC play. Despite the portal not officially opening until Monday, a number of Commodore players have already announced their intentions to enter the portal.
