QB Carson Beck leads the charge for the Bulldogs, and after looking a bit shaky early in the season, he has settled in nicely to his starting role. On the year, Beck has completed an impressive 72.4% of his passes for 3,495 yards and 22 touchdowns with six interceptions.
Superstar TE Brock Bowers has been battling an ankle injury in recent weeks. He sat out last week against Georgia Tech, and as of this writing, his status for Saturday remains in question. Bowers is Georgia’s top receiver, hauling in 51 passes for 661 yards and six touchdowns on the season. If he is able to go, it would be a big boost for the Bulldog offense. But even if Bowers is unable to play, Georgia has a number of other weapons to utilize. Since Bowers was injured against Vanderbilt on Oct. 14, the Bulldogs have scored 43, 30, 52, 38, and 31 points in five games.
Alabama Crimson Tide: Keeping CFP hopes alive
After dropping an early season matchup against Texas in September, the Alabama Crimson Tide have reeled off 10 straight wins. It hasn’t always been pretty, as consistency on both sides of the ball has been tough to come by. The Tide barely escaped unranked Auburn in the Iron Bowl last week, winning the game on a miracle 4th and goal conversion on a 31-yard TD pass from QB Jalen Milroe to WR Isiah Bond. Alabama was nearly caught sleepwalking, and it almost cost them.
Protecting the ball against Georgia will be of the utmost importance if the Tide want to become SEC champions. After struggling with turnovers early on, Milroe has done a good job of taking care of the ball as of late. After throwing three interceptions in his first three starts, he has just three picks in his last eight games. On the season, Milroe has accounted for 21 touchdowns through the air and 12 on the ground.
Georgia vs Alabama Prediction
One thing that makes college football so great is its volatility. A team could look dead in the water one week and then look borderline invincible the next week. Just look at Auburn. The Tigers lost handily to New Mexico State at home, then had Alabama on the ropes the following Saturday. Alabama looked horrendous at times last week, but that doesn’t mean they should be overlooked in this one. Don’t expect the same Alabama team that squeaked past Auburn to show up for this game. Nick Saban will have his team ready. Saban is 10-1 in SEC Championships, and is 7-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Considering how familiar these two head coaches are with one another, don’t be surprised if these two teams goes back and forth in a four-quarter battle that comes down to the wire. Consider taking the 6.5 points with Alabama.
In addition, the Over 54.5 could be worth a look in this matchup. Georgia’s offense has been humming right along, and on the season the Bulldogs’ 39.6 points per game ranks eighth in the country. Furthermore, Georgia’s 496.4 yards of total offense per game ranks sixth, and Beck is playing with a ton of confidence right now. Both Beck and Milroe have done a good job of not turning the ball over, and they have both improved significantly as the season has gone on. This could be a high-scoring affair.
