The final weekend of the 2023 college football regular season is right around the corner.

Josh Heupel’s Tennessee Volunteers (7-4) will look to close the season on a strong note against in-state rival Vanderbilt (2-9) on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.

Both teams are looking for a win in the final game as Tennessee and Vanderbilt have combined for eight losses in their last 10 comes. Fortunately for Tennessee, though, the match-up appears to be very one-sided in favor of the Vols. Tennessee enters the game as a 27-point favorite and has a 94.9 percent projection to win the game on Saturday according to ESPN analytics.

Saturday’s game in Knoxville will represent both Senior Day and Salute to Service.

Previous Matchups

Vanderbilt used to dominate Tennessee on the football field.

And then the year turned 1930 and the Vols never looked back.

The Commodores won 18 out of the first 23 matchups against the Vols (with three ties) from 1892 to 1927. From that point on, though, it’s been quite one-sided.

Tennessee holds a 79-33-5 advantage over Vanderbilt in the 131 years of games dating back to 1892. The Vols really began to balloon the series lead starting in 1976. From that point on, Tennessee has won 40 games compared to Vanderbilt’s seven games. The Vols have four straight wins against the Commodores including a 101-21 scoring advantage under head coach Josh Heupel in his two games. Vanderbilt’s three-game win streak over Tennessee from 2016-2018 was the Commodores’ first three-game win streak since the 1920s.
