Each week, Rocky Top Insider will take a look at how all 12 opponents on Tennessee’s 2023 schedule fared.
From Kentucky to Vanderbilt, let’s take a look at how the Vols’ 2023 opponents in the 11th week of the college football season.
Week 1 Opponent: Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia lost a tightly contested game to Louisville on the road, 31-24. It would’ve been a major upset as Louisville is ranked 11th in the nation.
Virginia’s record is now 2-8 on the season and 1-5 in ACC play.
Week 2 Opponent: Austin Peay Governors
The Governors kept their winning streak going with a 30-17 win over Utah Tech. Austin Peay now has an eight-game winning streak with their most previous loss being to Tennessee in Week 2.
The Governors are 8-2 on the year.
Week 3 Opponent: Florida Gators
Florida kept it close with LSU for the majority of the game on the road in Baton Rouge, but the Gators ultimately fell short 52-35 as Jayden Daniels had a game to remember for the Tigers.
With the loss, Florida drops to 5-6 and reaching bowl eligibility seems unlikely with a road trip to Missouri and a contest with undefeated Florida State remaining on the schedule.
Week 4 Opponent: UTSA Roadrunners
Like Austin Peay, UTSA hasn’t lost a game since playing against Tennessee. The Roadrunners extended their home winning streak to six games with a 34-14 win over Rice.
UTSA is now 7-3 and tied for first in the AAC.
Week 5 Opponent: South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina won their second consecutive game, taking care of Vanderbilt in Columbia, 47-6. The Gamecocks now have four wins and are 4-6 on the season, meaning they still need to beat Kentucky and Clemson to reach the postseason.
Week 6 Opponent: Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M blasted Mississippi State 51-10 in College Station to improve to 6-4 (4-3 SEC). Despite the win, the Aggies’ head coach Jimbo Fisher was fired.

Week 12 Opponent: Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt’s losing streak extended to eight games with a horrible 47-6 loss to South Carolina on the road. The Commodores are parked dead last in the SEC East with a paltry 2-9 (0-7 SEC) record.
