First College Football Playoff Rankings Set to Release Tuesday Night

We’re only a few hours away from knowing the first College Football Playoffs rankings of the 2023 college football season.

ESPN will host the College Football Playoffs Top 25 Rankings show on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Selection Committee began meeting on Monday at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas and will reveal the rankings on the ESPN show on Halloween night.

Tennessee, a team that was ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoffs during the 2022 season, jumped from No. 21 to No. 19 in the Week 10 AP Top 25 poll after the win over Kentucky on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.

The Vols are projected to land somewhere in the back half of the CFB Playoff Rankings on Tuesday night.

Tennessee landed as the No. 1 team in the first 2022 College Football Playoff rankings. According to ESPN Stats and Info, though, Tennessee is only one of two teams to be the No. 1 team in the first College Football Playoff rankings that did not end up making the final playoff selections at the end of the regular season. Mississippi State is the other team from the 2014 season.

Here’s a look at how Tennessee’s 2022 College Football Playoff rankings went last season:

  • November 1: No. 1
  • November 8: No. 5
  • November 15: No. 5
  • November 22: No. 10
  • November 29: No. 7
  • Selection Day December 4: No. 6
