Mike Matthews is Tennessee football’s highest rated commit in its 2024 recruiting class. He put on a show with an impressive 52-yard touchdown catch in Parkview High School’s 28-21 win over Newton High School on Friday night.
In a tie game late in the first quarter, Matthews bobbled a pass over the middle before hauling it in and taking multiple hits before ending in the end zone. Check out the highlight play here.

With the victory, Parkview improved to 6-2 on the season and ended Newton’s unbeaten season. According to MaxPreps, Matthews has 558 receiving yards and seven touchdowns so far this season.

Matthews ranks as a five-star recruit and the No. 15 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The Atlanta native also ranks as the No. 4 receiver int he country and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia. The blue-chip recruit committed to Tennessee over Clemson, Georgia and Southern Cal in July.
The Vols’ 20-commit 2024 recruiting class ranks No. 11 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
