From UConn to Florida, let’s take a look at how the Vols’ 2023 opponents in the fourth week of the college football season.
Week 1 Opponent: Virginia Cavaliers

Week 2 Opponent: Austin Peay Governors
Dominated Gardner-Webb in Clarksville, 41-14. The Governors improved to 4-2 with the win and have won every game since losing 30-13 to Tennessee in Week 2.
Week 3 Opponent: Florida Gators
Florida stormed back to beat South Carolina 41-39 on the road. The Gators were down 10 with five minutes remaining but found a way to mount the comeback, and are now 5-2 (3-1 SEC) on the season.
Week 4 Opponent: UTSA Roadrunners
UTSA defeated Trent Dilfer’s UAB team at home, 41-20, to finally get back to .500 on the year at 3-3.
Week 5 Opponent: South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina saw a 10-point lead slip away in the final five minutes against SEC East foe Florida and lost 41-39 to the Gators in Columbia.
The Gamecocks’ poor season continues, as they now sit at 2-4 (1-3 SEC), with a bleak chance to reach a bowl game.
Week 6 Opponent: Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M lost to Tennessee in Neyland Stadium, 20-13. The loss dropped the Aggies to 4-3 on the season with a 2-2 SEC record.

Week 7 Opponent: Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama barely beat Arkansas in Tuscaloosa, 24-21. The Tide started off hot, but their first half lead quickly evaporated in the second, as Alabama was outscored 15-3 in the second half.
However, they held on to pick up the ugly home win. The Tide improved to 6-1 (4-0 SEC) on the season before hosting Tennessee this weekend.
Week 8 Opponent: Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky lost their second consecutive game this weekend, as they got handled by Missouri at home, 38-21. The Cats defense could not keep Mizzou’s high-powered offense at bay, and the defense struggled for the second straight week.
After a 5-0 start, the Wildcats are now 5-2 with a 2-2 conference record.
Week 9 Opponent: UConn Huskies

Week 10 Opponent: Missouri Tigers
Missouri looked impressive in their 38-21 road win over Kentucky. The Tigers’ solid season continues as they improved to a 6-1 (2-1 SEC) record.
Week 11 Opponent: Georgia Bulldogs
The Bulldogs started slow but ultimately pulled away at Vanderbilt and won 37-20, keeping their undefeated season alive.
It wasn’t all good for the Bulldogs in Nashville, though, as they lost star tight end Brock Bowers for the next 4-6 weeks, putting his status for the Tennessee game in question.
Week 12 Opponent: Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt hung with Georgia for essentially the entire first half but ultimately couldn’t keep pace as they lost the Bulldogs, 37-20, at home.
The Commodores are now 2-6 (0-4 SEC) after starting 2-0 on the year.
